Zune Review: Sync 3 PCs and 2 Zunes with you Zune Pass

As part of our Zune reviews and Zune marketplace reviews we have here a very interesting piece of information that comes from the term of service agreement of the Zune.

"With a ZunePass, you can stream or download content on a subscription basis on up to three (3) authorized computers or Xbox 360 consoles. You can also synch your library onto up to two (2) Zune devices. However, you must sign into the Zune Marketplace at least once every 30 days to refresh your digital licenses that accompany each download of subscription content. If you have transferred subscription content to your Zune device(s), you will need to connect the Zune device(s) to your computer and log into the Zune Marketplace to refresh your device(s) at least monthly.

That answers a question we had for a long time. First, now we know we can download the content on more than 1 computer or Xbox! In fact, 3 is pretty good! And secondly, if my girlfriend and I both have a Zune, we can share the Zune Pass subscription. This is good news! I just hope that when you sync your digital licences it does take very long if you have a few thousand songs in your Zune...

Planning any vacations with your Zune? Don't forget: less than 30 days otherwise you will lose access to all your music! Maybe Microsoft should think of a "key" you could enter or beam in your Zune that could confirm that your subscription as been paid!

The agreement does not mention if you still have to sync you digital licences every 30 days if you have a 3 months subscription. Source: Zune.net and Zunemax.com

Actually I think I read somewhere that we do have to sync every 30 days or the songs lockup. I'd have to go back but I think it was in the Software descriptions that they state you have to sync every 30 days.

With the ability to sync three pcs and two zune with the zunepass, I see a lot of potential. One media center pc with unlimited amount of music sounds for $15 sounds like an awesome entertainment system. The Zune is going to push iPod to rethink their entire strategy.

Interesting, because the iPod/iTunes system already allows a single user ("account") to be authorized on five (5) different computers. And each of those computers can download DRM'd music to an infinite number of iPods.

And if you don't log into iTunes for 30 days ... you don't lose your music. :)
