Zune at CES: New Accessories from DreamGear and SDI (iHomeAudio)

Posted by Stephane Dion

CES-international-2007LOGOThe Consumer Electronic Show (CES) is the place to be to show off new gadgets and consumer electronic products. Any serious CE company makes an anouncement during the show. We were wondering what would be the Zune annoucement made during the event? Microsoft must have something in his sleeve for the show. Right? Especially this year when Apple his expected to announce the iPhone at MacWorld 2007?

The easiest answer would be a 60Gb, 80Gb or 100Gb Zune version. I personally don’t think they are ready to announce any flash version of the Zune player. Even though it would be one of the nicest surprise they could make to Zune fans.

Could it be new accessories? Right on! We surfed on the CES website and found two accessory makers that says they have Zune products.

Technorati Tags:

The first one is SDI Technologies (iHomeAudio.com) and the second one is Dreamgear.

SDI Technologies is a 50 year old consumer electronics company that designs, manufactures, and markets alarm clocks, clock radios, satellite radios, and iPod accessories under several national brands, including Soundesign, Timex, iHome, and XM Satellite Radio. SDI’s affiliates include KIDdesigns who markets electronic toys under several national brands, including Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Spider-Man. They are claiming now that they have “Designed for Zune” products. My bet is on iHomeaudio versions of their iPod products. iHomeAudio has an interesting line of speakers and alarm clocks product for the iPod that would make a perfect fit for the Zune as well.

Dreamgear has a broader line of product and it will be difficult to know which ones they are going to make for the Zune in January. It could be cases or speaker systems again. Their iSound series could be a really nice add-on to the Zune.

We asked for feedbacks from Bill Wittress, Zune's accessory manager, and he responded by saying "I can confirm that we work with SDI(and they are a good partner)". He could not give us more product details at this point because of a non-disclosure agreement.

I'd love to see accessories from ihomeaudio for Zune. Hopefully more will come out of the woodwork at CES. Thanks ClicZune!

My only disappoint with the Zune is the lack of accessories. In particular, I would love to have a Bose and/or Infinity speaker/docking station for the Zune.
