New Zune and Wi-Fi Scenario on their way

In a recent interview, Chris Stephenson, general manager of global marketing for Zune, confirmed that a new Zune will be announced shortly. New Wi-Fi scenarios are also going to be released. It sounds like the month of May will be an exciting month for the Zune. It's not clear though if we are only going to see new announcements or if we are actually going to see new products and features right away. A Red Zune is expected by the end of May but we don't know if new features are going to be released at the same time. Let's hope! The Zune needs a bit of the "redbull" effect.

We think of [the Zune] as a broad entertainment offer that is driven by music at the moment," he said. "We will start to play more aggressively in a broader number of categories." The current Zune is just the "tip of the iceberg," he said.

In the next month or so, Microsoft plans to reveal more about its vision for the future of Zune, he said.

Beyond the form factor, Microsoft is also likely to expand the Wi-Fi capabilities in the Zune, Stephenson said. Without revealing any specific plans for new Wi-Fi capabilities, Stephenson described scenarios that are being discussed in the marketplace, such as the potential for Zune users to download music over Wi-Fi in public hotspots or to synch with their PC-based music collections while at home.

Well I just hope they intend to release new wifi capability for the current zune rather than just a new model

If they release a new Wi-Fi Scenario, it's going to be available for the 30Gb Zune. MS said that all along and the "upgradable" firmware is one of the key selling points.

all micros0ft would have to do is open up the current wi-fi to create wireless syncing and hotspot acess.....

I think that if they release the red they should step it up and release the 60Gb model at the same time. Also, if they were to release a new line of 100Gb in like 3 new colors and a slightly new design, they'd sell millions of those.

I truly hope they are gonna open up podcasting cuz I feel like a trator downloading podcasts and converting them plus its a pain to do so .... but on top of that feature I hope they also work on implementing Audiobooks , and abilty to sync your quicklist with your zune software playlists on the fly would be great and lastly although small .. A CLOCK , thats all ... a CLOCK and then we can work up to say day of the week or even a monthly calender...
