A Million Zune Sold!

Back in November 2006, when the Zune came out, there was a lot of skepticism on how many Zune could be sold before Microsoft’s year end in June 2007. At the time, Microsoft said they would break the 1 000 000 Zunes sold before that date.

Well, according to Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft’s entertainment division, they have done it! At least they will reach that point very shortly. Based on all the Zune bashing we have seen since the Zune came out, this is excellent news for the Zune team and for all Zune lovers as well.

“We're very pleased with the progress. We've sold a little over a million Zunes. In the category we're in, the hard-disk-based category, we've got about 10 percent market share. It's a good start. It's not an overwhelming start. I'm not going to pretend its some gigantic move” said Robbie Bach.

Robbie Bach seems to like having some tough competitors. “…competing with Apple aggressively is fun. I enjoy that. They're a great company and a worthy competitor.”, he added.

But the best as yet to come, with the second generation Zune, the flash Zune and the Watermelon-Red Zune that will hit the shelves between now and next fall, the Zune buzz will grow and grow everyday.

If Microsoft could sell a million Zune in the first six months, how many Zune can they sell in the next 6 months? Two million? Four Million? Keep the good work Zune team!

One million sold to end users...or one million sold to retailers?

BIG difference.

Im sure it sold to retailers... its the same shit microsoft is doing with there 360 numbers... Nice way to inflate your numbers and make the public believe your product will be around in a year, which i really doubt the zune will still be here this time next year...

Tim, bottom line you're an idiot. This is the same tactic the majority of companies user. Sony for instance...it was always "so many units SHIPPED"...not sold. And do you seriously think that MS will let something die this quickly even if it is a failure? Theyre not #1, but theyre number 2. That wasnt enough to stop them from making XBOX360 was it? They were never #1 with the original XBOX, and for a long time, they were #3 to Nintendo with the ill-fated GameCube which ended in last place.

And that particular lesson should go to show you...the PS3 is sucking it up while the Wii is almost impossible to find...and that isnt due to fake production issues, its a little thing called demand.

Let Apple get just a little bit cocky about their dominance...they could be at the bottom before they know it.

apple was doing fine for 15 years before they fired steve jobs. in fact the only reason microsoft exists is because steve jobs was fired and apple lost their market share. if apple was able to do so well for 15 years in the 70s and 80s, what would make you think they will get cocky and lose dominance? what a total noob.
