Zune 8 Review: My Girlfriend Likes it Too!
We’ve seen Sam’s Zune 8 unboxing video, but here’s my shot on the Red Zune 8.
How do you know if a product is ready for mass market and if it has the potential to become a real hit in sales? Well, the answer is simple, you ask my girlfriend! Valerie does not have the geek profile at, all and electronic toys are not her thing. But even though she’s not a gadget lover like you and me, when a product is extremely well designed, she’s attracted to it. Last year, when the Zune 30 came out, she literally turned her back on it and said it was ugly, bulky and not appealing like her cute little iPod nano. She was right; the Zune 30 won’t be remembered as a design wonder of the 21st century...
This year, Valerie went to Target to buy a red Zune 8 for me. You know want? She couldn’t resist and she opened the box on her way back home! When she came in, she said, “You not what, I could use one of these…”. That’s it folks, I can tell you, that means that Zune 4 and 8 can attract women and this is a major milestone for the Zune. You can’t just release a pink color device to grab a woman’s attention. You have to think about what women want, and I think that the Flash Zune has achieved that this year with the new devices.
Besides that, I personally really like the new Zune 8 as well. Construction quality is really good and I like the Zune pad a lot, even though I prefer to click on the pad for small steps in the menu or to skip a song. The back and play/pause button are a bit difficult to reach with the thumb, but there’s nothing there to create a real discomfort.
The glossy red is really sharp and I think it looks good for both men and women.
The screen looks great and videos are really fun to watch, even on a screen of such a small size. My only complaint would be for the earphone connector. Just like Sam mentionned, I prefer when it’s located at the top of the player instead of the bottom. Again, not a deal breaker at all, just a preference.
I was impressed by the sound quality of the basic earphones included with the Zune 8. I was expecting cheap earphones that would make me want to buy the premium ones, but the sound quality of the buds is more than acceptable.
If you any question about the device, post it in the comments. I’ll be happy to answer it.

I brought my new red Zune to school today for the first time (as I just got it yesterday and wasn't in school yesterday), and a lot of people liked it. My friend that owns a 2nd generation Ipod nano says he likes it better than his ipod. (and I've already convinced him weeks ago to get the Zune 80 instead of an Ipod classic for Christmas) Only one person said he didn't like it, and the reason why he didn't like it was because he didn't own one and I did. (he was only kidding though, he did like it). Also, the red is dark at times in color, which is good for the guys, but when in the light it's a light red, so it's good for women too. I think this is the only Zune color available for the flash players that will attract men and women.
