Don't Believe Everything You Read

From the Wall St 24/7 site, they are talking about the bestsellers over at online retail giant Amazon:

In the "Electronics" category the Apple (AAPL) iPod, Gamin (GRMN) GPS devices, and Canon cameras take up most of the top 20 spots. The Microsoft (MSFT) Zune comes in at No. 12.

Zune_24 Uh, hum.  Clearing my throat, I'd like to hypothesize that they did their research a while ago because the highest ranked player, a brown Zune 30, isn't even in the top twenty, at 24.  The Zune 80 is 49.  The black flash Zune 8 is in the distance at #612.  While it's a heck of a lot stronger than last year overall, it does show the Zune team that they do have some room for more improvement.

I do find it ironic that the much maligned brick of a player, the Zune 30, that there was an abundance of last year, now is the hottest selling Zune in the line.  Of course, it is the most discounted one as well.  I think this points to a market that is very price conscious, rather then a sudden love of brown electronics.

One other fascinating factoid is that while the Zune 80 is going for $239 at Amazon currently, its arch competitor, the iPod Classic 80 has been cut down to $229 today.  That's some serious price cutting, and a refreshing change from last year when it was rare to find either player discounted.  Me thinks Apple is feeling the pressure, and responding, no?
