Artists Get Compensation For Zunes
The point of this article is that illegal downloading has ruined the record business. On the one side we have the record companies that continue to see their profits decline (like here). In the other camp, we have the ISP's that won't stop the peer download traffic because folks don't really pay for a fat fiber optic line directly to their home for email. So rather than the music industry evolve past CD's, and come up with an innovative distribution that benefits everyone, they'd rather blame others for their stagnant growth.
Now, of course there's a Zune tie in here. Apparently the record companies do get compensation for every Zune sold:
He said content owners should get a cut of every MP3 player sold, as U2's label Universal gets with the Zune through a deal it has with Microsoft. Universal gets $1 US for every Zune sold, which helps compensate artists for the content that is ultimately being used on the player.
Huh? So the record companies get money from the hardware side, and the music side. Let's just say that I wouldn't run them a benefit.

Yah because that makes a ton of sense... (My voice isn't dripping with sarcasm or anything). I hate record labels as much as I hate my ISP.

And I'm sure the record co.'s share this with the artists. Maybe in some other universe.
