PBS On the Zune

Lately I seem to be adding more podcasts to my Zune.  There is at least some quality, and lots more of not so quality, entertainment out there, and much of is free for the taking.  Seems like everyone is adding their content this way.  Well, we can add PBS to the list as they add content to the Zune Marketplace.  Quality entertainment including "Ken Burns Jazz," "America" and "American Lives," "NOVA," "Wired Science," "Scientific American Frontiers" and "Carrier." 

I'm concluding two things from this: waiting at the dentist will never be so boring again being forced to read last month's Time and US News & World Report.  The other is that I might have to break down and toss them a few bucks for this year's PBS fund drive to encourage this type of thing.

ZuneTV launches; take your web videos to go

ZuneTV has launched, now Zune users can take some of their favorite web videos with them on-the-go. The project is the works not of Microsoft, but instead created by a team from the Zune Boards, and will allow Zune users to take web videos with them in a Zune-friendly format.

Coming off like a YouTube clone that was built specifically for Zune users, it seems the only limitation will be the amount of videos that are available, which as of this posting there are 291 public videos that have been uploaded and a total of 738 members.

Given that the Zune has sold a respectable 2 million units, its hard to imagine that all of those users would feel the need to use ZuneTV and the content may be lacking. However placing that aside, ZuneTV offers users a place to "Watch," "Share" and "Download" videos. Which means users can simply watch videos or choose to upload and share their own work, and in addition the videos are also able to be downloaded as a WMV Zune-friendly format.

This seems like a great option for Zune users who are always on the go, and one that will ultimately be dependent on the users for success or failure. In order to get set up, you will need, (assuming you don't already have one) a ZuneBoards account.

Fan Does His Own Zune Commercials

How much do you love your Zune? Enough to go amateur hour and make your own Zune commercial ala the ones you see on TV? That's what one Zune lover has done over at YouTube - in fact he has several of them besides the one posted above. Not quite sure about the quality, but what the hell.

Zune 80 Reviewed by The Digital Lounge

Trolling the Web for ClicZune content brought me to this video review from a tech site called The Digital Lounge. The author is reviewing at length the Zune 80GB. As far as video reviews go, it is one of the more comprehensive ones I have so far seen.

ZuneOriginals: More than a Zune Player

Day after day we're getting testimonials of new Zune owners impressed by the new Zunes. Today, long time iPod fan, CNet's Donald Bell, just unboxed his brand new Zune 80 orderded at ZuneOriginals. Here's what Donald had to say about his Zune 80 unpacking experience:

"I'm writing this because I think what Microsoft is doing with the design and marketing of the Zune is noteworthy, especially when so many iPod competitors seem to be getting more sheepish about their product launches year-by-year. I had just as much excitement opening my custom Zune 80 this morning as I did unboxing the iPhone on the day it was released--and that's no small feat....Getting two lines of text etched into my iPod was not nearly as exciting as browsing Zune's catalog of full-size artwork. Zune Reviewed by PC Magazine

Folks, PC Magazine says the Zune 80 outperforms the iPod Classic. Isn't cool? On the negative side, the reviewer doesn't like the Flash Zune. Well, can't win them all I guess.

New Zune Spot Featuring the Pink Zune

There is a new ad running on TV right now. The ad features the Pink Zune, MIMS and all the other basic Zune colors. We were expecting an ad that would focus more on the features of the Zune but I guess this part is going to come with the Internet marketing campaign.

You can catch the ad on MTV, VHI, BET, and Adult Swim. The spot will also be broadcasted throughout the NBA playoffs and finals, and the season finales like Heroes, Grey's Anatomy, The Office, Lost, and Family Guy in top markets.

I do like the spot but I'm not amazed by it. Do you like it? Do you think it will convince more people to buy Zune players?

New Zune Advertising Campaign

It looks like the new Zune advertising campaign promised by Microsoft for May is already surfacing on the Internet (or I just missed this one before!)

Microsoft said the new campaign would focus more on the strengths of the Zune and less on the "welcome to the social" tag line. In fact, the tag line is completely gone! The video presents the different aspect of the Zune like the big screen, the built-in radio receiver and the double shot effect.

Have you seen this ad before? Do you like it? Is this enough to boost Zune's sales?

Zune vs. iPod: the iWars!

This video is awesome. Zune and iPod are having a fight, the Vader way. very well done for an amator video. The story goes like this :

We have seen a lot of Zune reviews since the launch in November. Users gave their opinions on the Zune many times. “Zune bashing” is now a sport recognized by all major colleges and universities.

A leak from an internal Microsoft meeting gave us this hilarious video. The Zune guy says you can easily share music, pictures and...videos! But no panic here, this is just a mistake, we are not getting video sharing for Chrismas.

Walkthrough video of the Zune

Engadget did an interesting walkthrough video of the Zune. We see pretty much of what is going to be available on the Zune next week. The simplicity of the menus seems to be a strong advantage of the Zune. The album artworks available in the navigation is really cool and is really a strong advantage over the iPod.

The comingzune.com website was updated with a few more of those Zune wallpapers. Have a look! They even have cool zune videos to download. I like the way Microsoft is trying to create a buzz with those very creative Zune “pieces of art”.  I wonder what will be next for the site after November 14th?

This is not Zune related at all, but I could not resist posting the video of those kids. I wished I already had my Zune to be able to upload it right away! Hey, Microsoft! You could add those kids to the pre-loaded content of the Zune!
