Zune Accessory Review: Crystal Case From Zuneone

We’ve just completed a review of a low-end Zune case from Zuneone. The case is a generic Chinese made product. We found out that you can buy the same Zune case from 22Moo and other vendors for more than 60%. This may not be a high product but the low price associated with the case makes it an interesting alternative for those of you with a more limited budget.

Description: The crystal case is a simple plastic case that comes in six different colors; blue, green, pink, transparent, smoke and yellow. The case also comes with a color matching neck strap, and integrated kick stand for viewing videos and full access to all Zune controls.

Pros:  Inexpensive case. Offer your Zune a reasonable protection.

Cons: Not easy to open. The hold button needs an adapter to be reachable.

Product quality (6/10):

The Crystal case comes in a very standard low quality packaging. The construction quality of the case is ok but nothing impressive. The kick stand is removable and gives a bad impression on the quality of the product, but once the Zune is in the case, it works well. Using the kick stand could eventually scratch the back of the Zune. Be careful about that.

Usability (7/10):

Opening the case is not an easy task. A knife could be useful if you have difficulties opening it with only your fingers. The kick stand is also removable and you will have to make sure it is at the right place before you insert the Zune player in the case.

The connectors are easily accessible but the hold button is unreachable. Zuneone sent us pictures of a small adaptor that was added to the case to use the hold button when the Zune is in the case. The controls are easily usable and we add no problems using the back and play/pause buttons.

Player Protectiveness (7.5/10):

This Zune case offers a good protection to your Zune. But remember that the case is made with solid plastic and the impact of a drop would be transmitted directly to the Zune.
The screen is well protected but the color of the case will change the color of your screen and diminished the visibility of the menus.

Conclusion (7/10):

We can’t tell you that the crystal case is a very good product but if you are looking for a cheap alternative, the case may be a good solution. At $11.95, the product is the best protection you can give your Zune for that price. 22moo is selling the same product for $19!
