This is a bit of old news but I thought I'd add my word in here on my Zune. Mine did the same thing. I used it that day, came home plugged it in. Next morning the screen was cracked and I could not figure out why. Microsoft wasn't helpful, they said they don't repair screens even if the product was under warranty. So that was a waste.

I have the new(ish) slim black 8g Zune, and I had always have had problems with static electricity shut off's and reboot's before, but one time I just had it laying on my desk and I came over to swipe the touch pad and change the song, but the static electricity not only just caused it to shut off, but it never fully rebooted, and it now only shows an illuminated black screen. I have also lost the ability to use the touch pad, and clicking left or right or up and down didn't work. So I can no longer change the song or adjust the volume. I can only listen to it on shuffle, and while my pause and play button work, noting else does, and I have to listen to a song all the way through to get on to the next one. Oh, and I can turn it off and put it on lock. It really blows. I think I totally fried my Zune. This is retarded, I haven't even had it for 3/4 of a year.

I haven't had any problems at all with the responsiveness of my screen. One thing I have noticed is when somebody first tries to navigate through my Zune HD 32GB they tend to have a little trouble getting the screen to respond. The reason, I found, is that the Zune HD has an very busy interface. Sliding your finger across different parts of the screen will get you different results and if you slide your finger across the wrong part of the screen, no result. People probably just need to get used to it.

Well by the time they decide to release the HD in Canada I'm sure most people wanting a touch device will have capitulated and gone over to the iPod Touch. So this is probably the death knell for the Zune as giving up market share is pretty much irreperable damage for any brand.

The sound quality is very nice. Battery life is very satisfying. In terms of performance,its really very good.

And format support still sucks, worse for an HD labelled player. The minimum it should support is DivX, Xvid, MPEG4 Advanced Simple Profile and H.264 Main Profile, High profile up to level 4.1. Plus the Zune software needs to support more container formats and codecs at least while transoding such as Dolby Digital, Matroska, MPEG1 MPEG2 in MPG, AVI etc

A potentially useful feature hobbled by half-assed implementation. Because they don't have columns for e.g. bitrate or location you can't tell just by looking which duplicate you want to delete. Instead you have to rightclick, choose properties, scan properties, then delete. And because you can't sort on the "i" column, you have to page through the entire collection. Someone probably emailed them saying "I need to be able to get rid of duplicates in the worst way" and MS took them at their word.

I would say this is highly possible to be the now playing screen in the new version of the Zune software. The now playing screen hasn't changed much throughout the revisions with addition of mix view in 3.0 i am sure there must be something new in 4.0 other than just icons. i think we all want to see the actual software part though thats where the real action is. Looking sexy as always though Zune.

Interesting to hear that you cannot find them as easily up in Canada either. Like I mentioned in the post I have not had the need or desire for a flash based Zune, but I think the market would still be there. After all, they are pretty different from the Zune HD.

I've been wondering throughout the whole Zune HD tease what changes they'll bring to the Zune 120. So far Zune has been really good about updating old players. Now of course the old players won't have the capacity these touch screen models have but I haven't heard any rumors on this at all.

Up here in Canada the Flash Zunes have been on clearance and the Zunes themselves are getting harder and harder to find even at major retailers such as future shop. Quick visit to their website is evident of this. Flash Zunes i think are gonna be replaced with the Zune HD and the alternative to the touch will be the 80 or 120. Zune hasn't been successful enough to keep all 3 lines going yet. In the future maybe.

I bought my daughter her Zune for Christmas. Everything I read about Zunes were great. We loved the product as long as it was working. But now that her screen is cracked from the inside we can't enjoy it any longer. My son's Zune did the same thing a couple months ago after he lived with it shuting itself off for 3 months before that. He only had his for a year.
When MS is asking people to spend $250 for their product it should not be imploding within a year with no support from the company. How long do they think they can sell a defective product.
